As I've said elsewhere, we love going on holiday, but who doesn't? Although we've had holidays in Italy, Kenya, Thailand and California and Venice since living in Cornwall, in order to go anywhere at all we first have to travel a long way to any "jumping off" point, for example travelling to Heathrow, Gatwick or even Bristol adds a day to our holiday either way. So, it's easy for us to take a Ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff and have holidays in France. Over the past couple of years we have had two holidays in Brittany, both of them brilliant, a holiday in the Minervois area which is in South Western France, and just recently we went to Provence.
We stayed the first night in Roscoff and then drove down to Coux-et-Bigaroux in the Perigord to spend one night in a hotel called "La Petit Chaperon Rouge" where we ate many times on our honeymoon in 1985. The picture to the right is Julian on the terrace where we used to eat... unfortunately on this occasion it wasn't warm enough and we ate in the restaurant instead. A delicious meal nevertheless |

We drove over the mountains the next day to Nimes, where we had rented a little cottage "Le Mazet" in the grounds of a larger house "La Clapeyrole" owned by Olivier and Jose. It was just perfect! Not only was the cottage clean and beautifully decorated, but our hosts were so hospitable, kind and generous. It was like staying with friends. I have to mention here their gorgeous boxer dogs, Max and Rea who are so friendly and so much fun! I would recommend "La Clapeyrole" to anyone unreservedly. Full details of renting "Le Mazet", or staying in their gorgeous B & B room can be found on their own website! La Clapeyrole Oh I mustn't forget! As a bonus there was a lovely swimming pool! |
Unfortunately they were booked the following week, so me moved to Collias, near Pont du Gard where we had booked a studio apartment overlooking the river for six nights. Regretfully, I cannot recommend it because it was cramped and cluttered and not as clean as it should have been. If anyone is interested the website is here It was saved because of the situation which was beautiful, we had a lovely terrace with views over the river and there was also a swimming pool. We had a lovely week despite the cluttered accommodation and went canoeing down the river twice. |

We journeyed home over two days, staying at Cour-Cheverny and finally Roscoff once again. |
